The State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has warned those who have formed the habit of setting up bonfire on the streets of Aba or elsewhere in the state to desist forthwith in their own interest or be prepared to face the attendant Collateral consequences.
Dr Ikpeazu who gave the warning during a crucial meeting cum briefing with the Chairman and other members of Ariara International Market management committee,
the Chairman and other members of Ngwa road market (Ahia Ohuru) management committee,
the Acting Chairmen and Heads of Service of Aba North and Aba South Local Government Areas held at Aba North Local Government Headquarters disclosed that such acts are capable of damaging the roads which were recently reconstructed by the state government.
Governor Ikpeazu represented by his Chief Of Staff, Dr A.C.B Agbazuere frowned at the high level of indiscipline exhibited by Aba residents and traders stressed the need for them to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately along major streets and drainages in other not to run foul of the law.
The Governor further enjoined the traders to keep and maintain a healthy environment by sweeping and keeping their business premises clean to enable business activities strive better adding that a task force team will be set up to monitor and enforce total compliance on all government directives patterning to environmental cleanliness.
In their speeches, the acting Chairman Aba North L.G.A, Mrs. Joy Iwuchukwu and her Aba South counterpart Mr. Fred Ogwo assured Governor Ikpeazu that his directives would be carried to the later while promising of an improvement in the environmental cleanliness of both the markets and
Aba community generally.
The acting Chairmen equally called on traders in all the markets in Aba to cooperate with them to ensure that the government's directives are adhered to.
Responding on behalf of the traders in Aba markets, the Chairmen of Ariaria International Market, Mr Chigozie Okeke and his Ngwa Road market counterpart, Mr. Chijindu Ojogho promised to redouble their efforts in ensuring that the environmental conditions of their markets are greatly improved.
Correspondent Ugochukwu Ahuchogu reports that the meeting featured a visit to the Ariaria International market and Ngwa Road Market (Ahia Ohuru) where the Governor's representative addressed the traders on the need to improve the sanitary conditions of the markets.
